چکیده

The removal efficiencies (REs) of twenty-seven pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) (eight analgesic/anti-inflammatories, six antibiotics, four ?-blockers, two antihypertensives/diuretics, three lipid regulators and psychiatric drugs) were evaluated in a pilot-scale two-stage mesophilic anaerobic digestion (MAD) system treating thickened sewage sludge from A2O™ wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) which was fed with the pre-treatment full-scale WWTP Murcia Este (Murcia, Spain). MAD long-term operated using different sets retention times (SRTs) for acidogenic (AcD) methanogenic (MD) digesters (phase I, 2 12 days; phase II, 5 24 days, AcD MD, respectively). Non-metric multidimensional scaling (MDS) plots showed strong negative correlations among phyla Proteobacteria Firmicutes between genera Methanosaeta Methanosarcina throughout full experimental period. Methane Production By Anaerobic Co-Digestion Of Sewage Sludge And Wheat Straw Under Mesophilic Conditions

This study investigated the possibilities of improving methane yield production from, the anaerobic co-digestion of wheat straw (WS) and primary sludge (PS). The batch experiment was conducted under mesophilic conditions. Different mixtures of WS and PS depending on its C/N ratio were carried out to investigate the optimum C/N ratio for effective methane production. The cumulative methane yield...

Thermophilic versus Mesophilic Anaerobic Digestion of Sewage Sludge: A Comparative Review

During advanced biological wastewater treatment, a huge amount of sludge is produced as a by-product of the treatment process. Hence, reuse and recovery of resources and energy from the sludge is a big technological challenge. The processing of sludge produced by Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) is massive, which takes up a big part of the overall operational costs. In this regard, anaerobic...

Anaerobic Co-digestion of Sewage Sludge with Cheese Whey under Thermophilic and Mesophilic Conditions

Anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge (SS) and co-digestion with cheese whey (CW) was evaluated in batch conditions under mesophilic and thermophilic regimens. Results indicated that the co-digestion can be successfully attained despite some inhibitory stages that may be initially present due to the accumulation of volatile fatty acids. Degradation of the mixture SS-CW followed a similar pattern...

The Intensification of Sewage Sludge Anaerobic Digestion by Partial Disintegration of Surplus Activated Sludge and Foam

Large quantities of sludge are produced in biological wastewater treatment. Sludge has a high putrescibility and therefore has to be stabilizsed in order to enable an environmentally safe utilization or disposal. The anaerobic digestion is the standard technique to stabilize the sludge. Digestion produces biogas and reduces the amount of organic matter. The amount of excess sludge production fr...

Improvement of Anaerobic Digestion of Sewage Sludge, Using Combined Hydrogen Peroxide and Thermal Pre-Treatment

The present study investigates the influence of individual and combined hydrogen peroxide and thermal pre-treatment of waste activated sludge on anaerobic digestion. For so doing, it employs anaerobic batch reactors in the mesophilic conditions. For comparison, soluble fractions of organic matter, biogas production, biochemical methane potential, removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD), and vol...
